IMSI Summer Institute 2025: Now Recruiting Science Communication Fellow!
Do you want to explore ways to communicate more effectively? Are you interested in conveying scientific advancements and research strategies to the public? The Integrative Movement Sciences Institute (IMSI) invites applications for a unique Science Communication Fellowship—a hands-on opportunity at the intersection of cutting-edge science and creative media. We are looking for a curious, motivated, and creative trainee that is passionate about storytelling, media, and public engagement. Science Communication Fellowship Overview:
As an IMSI science communications fellow, you will train under the mentorship of Dr. Christian Hubicki, IMSI Director of Outreach. You’ll collaborate directly with student and faculty researchers to explore how science happens and how to communicate it. You’ll receive mentorship in both movement sciences and science communication/digital media production, while building a portfolio of public-facing content such as researcher profiles, short videos, explainer posts, or behind-the-scenes lab stories. Responsibilities include:
- Produce digital content highlighting scientific advancements and growth. Content includes: (1) YouTube video shorts, (2) social media posts, (3) website copy, (4) other online content
- Coordinate and communicate with senior institute faculty to pitch stories and obtain approval.
- Interview student, postdoctoral, and faculty scientists about their work.
- Attend the Capstone Symposium on September 4-5th, 2025
Tasks: Video editing, Video production, Web content production, Interviewing, Storytelling
Timing: July 28 – September 19, 2025
Location: As scientific teams are based around the United States, the communications fellow role will be a remote position. Depending on your location, you may have the opportunity to participate in in-person activities.
Funding: $600/week for the fellowship duration for trainees participating full-time (40 hours/week). Part-time participation will need to be approved by the faculty supervisor and the IMSI director, with a stipend pro-rated according to time spent.
